Committed To Saving Lives (click for more information)

Get Real Behind The Wheel is committed to saving lives.

For the last several years vehicle accidents involving teen drivers have become the number one killer of teens. With more deaths than disease, suicide, and murder it has become increasingly important to create winning strategies that assist parents with protecting their teen drivers. With the heartbreaking statistics it is easy to feel hopeless but by better preparing future drivers for the harsh realities of driving, Get Real Behind The Wheel is looking to turn teen driving statistics towards the parents' favor.

Safer driving habits don't just start with your teen driver, it's a group effort that requires support from family, friends, and community. Get Real Behind The Wheel believes that promoting both parent and teen accountability will aid in creating safer driving conditions for all.

Get Real Behind The Wheel is proud to be pioneers when it comes to getting community involved early in their teenagers driving. Get Real Behind The Wheel was founded through heartbreak, and is dedicated to keeping teens safe on the road, and keeping parent free from the pain of losing their children. Please take the time to watch the provided video that chronicles the storyline that started Get Real Behind The Wheel.

While community effort is a must there is no more important key to the safety of teenage drivers than then their parents. Safe driving habits can be taugh early on through both observation, and conversation. Even if your child is to young to drive by providing a model of what a safe driver looks like your child will have a strong foundation to grow with. It is also important as a parent that limitations are put in place, created rules are inforced, and consiquences for breaking established rules are understood.

Crucial to all of this is the Parent Teen Contract which assists you in creating an agreement with your teen driver that sets the standards of conduct, lays out your day to day expectations, encourages accountability, and states consequences.  The contract is easily reviewable, and can be edited and printed from your internet browser, or saved for safe keeping.

For editing on a standalone PDF program the zipped folder containing the file can be downloaded here.

The Great Hang Up

Without a doubt teenager vehicle accidents are an increasingly growing statistic that leaves property damaged, and young lives sadly damaged or gone. The statistics are heart breaking, but even more so many of these tragedies could have been prevented. As with all things good decision making can be a second nature if nurtured early, and Get Real Behind the Wheel firmly holds the belief that driving with your cell phone in hand compromises your functionality as a driver and is neglectful to the countless families that trustfully share the roadways that you travel. That is why Get Real Behind the Wheel has partnered with News 10's The Great Hangup campaign encouraging drivers of all ages to put there driving first and save their phone for when their vehicle is parked and their hands are free.

"Texting or talking on the phone without a hands free device is against the law and can lead to unnecessary and sometimes deadly crashes. April is national distracted driving month and News10, along with the Office of Traffic Safety, Nor Cal Honda and the California Highway Patrol urge you to take part and help us make our streets safer by taking the pledge not to text and drive."
