About Us (click for more information)

The front line of the safety battle is the parents doorstep.

It has been said that two is a company, and three is a crowd. If that is true the only words that would describe the overwhelming number of teens who lost there lifes last year in motor vehicle accidents would be "heart wrenching". Get Real Behind The Wheel was founded on the back of a tradgedy, but we are focusing on keeping alive memories and bring beauty from ashes. Through constant personal and community outreach and community involvement Get Real Behind The Wheel is looking to reachout to families who have lost a loved one, and even more so keeping parents from experiencing the loss of losing their teenager in a motor vehicle accident.

Our Story (click for more information)

Our story starts on January 27th, 2007 when Ken Ucci and his family suffered the loss of a lifetime. His 17-year-old son, Michael, was killed when the car he was riding in slammed into a light pole in front of his high school. The young man driving the car lost both legs and the other two passengers in the back seat, including Michael's sister, were also seriously injured, and admitted into critical care. Exactly one month after the crash, a grieving Ken saw a television broadcast about a man in Florida who had lost his wife and daughter in a car crash caused by a speeding teen. What Ken saw on Television that day began a process of healing and forgiveness. The story touched Ken so deeply, he wanted to start a program in central California. Ken joined forces in a campaign to bring awareness to teens of the dangers of speeding and to educate parents of teens about the importance of teaching their young drivers to be responsible while behind the wheel and offer them opportunities to get involved in a positive way. Many hours later, and with the hard work and dedication of many volunteers, and partners Get Real Behind the Wheel has grown and today exists to provide parents with a winning strategy to turn the odds of there children's safety on the road back towards their favor.

Ashley A. Tracy CA

If you missed out Get Real Behind the Wheels driving event last Octobers was a huge success. We wanted to end our 2012 with a splash and we got just that. We had nearly 60 new or returning drivers honing their skills, and a guest law enforcement officer on patrol that added an extra splash of reality for the new drivers. The smell of tire smoke was in the air as students learned advanced breaking techniques on the skid pad, parents anxiously tapped the dash as there students demonstrated there ability to parallel park, and the track was lively with students focusing on the basics and sharpening there abilities turn by turn. Smiles on the track were abundant, and spirits were high throughout the event, but one girl in particular had a day that stood out. Ashley a first time participant from West High Schools had a standout day excelling both on the main course, slalom run, the skid pad, and showed that she felt right at home behind the wheel. While no driver is perfect Ashley has driven the first few miles on what Get Real Behind the Wheel hopes is a long safe journey.

Erin M. Tracy CA

Millennium High Schools Erin had a note worthy day on the track, earning valuable experience on our closed course. This was Erin's first time on track and while initially nervous she began to excel as the day went on. There are still many obstacle to overcome but I trust with a dedication, continued practice, and determination even advanced parallel parking will become second nature. Overall Erin excelled on track and will only continue to grow in her skills and abilities as a driver.
